The Wize IEI

Are you currently in the market for new employees? If so, it’s important to make sure that you are hiring individuals who will be a good fit for your accounting practice. To help you with this process, here are three things to look for when recruiting candidates. We call them the Wize IEI:

  1. Integrity
  2. Energy
  3. Intelligence

These are the same three qualities that business magnate and investor Warren Buffett looks for when hiring people.

Let’s take a closer look at each one.

Integrity. This is perhaps the most important quality to look for in employees. If you are looking for someone with integrity, you should look for candidates that 1) stick to their word; 2) do what they say they will do, and 3) tell the truth (even when it isn’t easy). Integrity goes hand-in-hand with trustworthiness.

If you can trust someone, you will be more likely to give them the freedom they need to do their job well.

Energy. We all lead busy lives and we hope that your employees feel the same way. However, this doesn’t mean we want team members who are dragging during working hours.

When doing interviews with prospective employees, determine who is most engaged and passionate about the job. Someone with a high energy level during an interview will probably also have a lot of energy throughout the workday.

Intelligence. While having a certain amount of intelligence is important, it may not be as important as you think. What is more valuable than someone’s smarts is their ability to learn and grow.

Every person is unique, with their own experiences and interests. As long as your new employees are willing to be open-minded and willing to put in the time for self-improvement, they will not only do well with your company but also enjoy their work more.

Remember that all three of these qualities – integrity, energy, and intelligence – are significant for any potential employee. When recruiting candidates, keep these three qualities in mind and you will certainly find the best candidate for your accounting practice.
